IMERETIAN WINE COMPETITION

Homeland of Wine Magazine

IMERETIAN WINE COMPETITION was held under the auspices of the “Georgian Wine Guild”, and with the support of DMO Imereti, Imeretian Wine Association, and the Homeland of Wine magazine. The purpose of the competition was to support Imeretian wineries and promote Imeretian wine. The sensory evaluation at the competition revealed the top ten wines made from Imeretian grape varieties. 

Tsitska

Points – 93. Qvevri white dry wine. Producer – “Villa Mosavali”. Vintage – 2019. Grape variety/varieties – Tsitska. Color, aroma/taste – light straw with golden tones. Tropical fruit, quince, dried apricots, and delicate floral aroma. 

Krakhuna-Mtsvane

Points – 93. Qvevri white dry wine. Producer – “Churi Chinebuli”. Vintage – 2020. Grape variety/varieties – Krakhuna, Mtsvane. Color, aroma/taste – golden. Intense aroma of pear, peach, apricot, tropical fruit, and lightly citrusy. Cheerful taste.

Dzelshavi

Points – 93. Qvevri red dry wine. Producer – “Winery Zodi”. Vintage – 2021. Grape variety/varieties – Dzelshavi. Color, aroma/taste – light ruby. Delicate floral, raspberry, and strawberry tones. 

Otskhanuri Sapere

Points – 93. Red dry wine. Producer – “Barbales Marani”. Vintage – 2020. Grape variety/varieties – Otskhanuri Sapere. Color, aroma/taste – dark ruby. Rich taste and aroma of blackberry, cherry stone, and blueberry. Full-bodied, elegant.

Tsitksa-Tsolikouri

Points – 92. Qvevri white dry wine. Producer – “Winery Kazhona”. Vintage – 2021. Grape variety/varieties – Tsitska, Tsolikouri. Color, aroma/taste – yellow with golden tones. Aromas of citrus and garden fruit with fresh fruit taste.

Otskhanuri Sapere

Points – 91. Red dry wine. Producer – “NioSebi Winery”. Vintage – 2021. Grape variety/varieties – Otskhanuri Sapere. Color, aroma/taste – dark ruby. Intense aroma of red stone fruit, berries, and delicate aroma of lilac.

Otskhanuri Sapere

Points – 91. Red dry wine. Producer – “Churi Chinebuli”. Vintage – 2018. Grape variety/varieties – Otskhanuri Sapere. Color, aroma/taste – ruby color, with red and black berries, violet, and delicate aroma of lilac. Extractive, balanced and long-lasting taste.

Otskhanuri Sapere

Points – 90. Red dry oak wine. Producer – “Vinoartana” (VINOTELLS). Vintage – 2019. Grape variety/varieties – Otskhanuri Sapere. Color, aroma/taste – dark ruby color. Ripe black fruit and spice aroma, with a balanced taste of oak and wine. 

Ojaleshi

Points – 90. Qvevri red dry wine. Producer – “Bagrati’s Georgian Wine”. Vintage – 2020. Grape variety/varieties – Ojaleshi. Color, aroma/taste – dark ruby. Intense aromas of black berries, red dried fruits, and delicate aromas of prices. Rich taste, full-bodied. 

Tsitska

Points – 90. Qvevri white dry wine. Producer – “Sazano Wine”. Vintage – 2018. Grape variety/varieties – Tsitska. Color, aroma/taste – light straw with golden tones. Ripe garden fruit, tropical fruit, and delicate honey aromas. Balanced, lasting taste. Tropical fruit, quince, dried apricots, and delicate floral aroma.
