Georgian wine is primarily exported to China and Japan in the Asian market. In comparison, the Korean market for Georgian wine is relatively newer but growing, with a 26% increase in exports last year.
Following an insightful conversation with Mr. Chan Jun Park, I visited a Korean restaurant in Hamburg to explore its wine selection. Although I did not find Georgian wine on the menu, I enjoyed several delicious Korean dishes that, in my opinion, would pair beautifully with dry white wines from Kakheti.

My discussion with Mr. Chan Jun Park about Georgian wine coincided with his participation in the Berliner Wine Trophy. He noted that Koreaโs wine market is expanding, with growing interest among consumers in wines from lesser-known regions.
Three key factors drive Korean interest in Georgian wine: the uniqueness of Georgian wine, the effective work of the National Wine Agency, and the support of Korean influencers, who, like me, are passionate about Georgian wine.
Some Korean consumers prefer semi-sweet Saperavi, while more experienced wine enthusiasts choose Mukuzani (a dry red wine from the Saperavi variety of the Mukuzani microzone) and qvevri amber wines.
Georgia certainly produces high-quality amber wines that could easily stand alongside wines from Josko Gravner or Radikon. For example, the qvevri Khikhvi from the Barbales winery or the qvevri Rkatsiteli from Shavnabada Monastery.
