Kobuladze’s Marani is a family-owned business that has been passing down the time-honoured tradition of winemaking from generation to generation. Since 2017, Ioseb Kobuladze began renovating his Marani and crafting wine exclusively from the Rkatsiteli grape variety cultivated in his own vineyard situated in Bolnisi. The addition of Saperavi soon followed, today he produces wines from these two varieties, drawing inspiration from both traditional and classic (European) winemaking methods. “Our main niche is a commitment to the production of high-quality wines, driven by meticulous work and dedication to the promotion of Bolnisi wine. We produce up to 10 tons of wine annually. We do not shy away from experiments either- in the village of Mamkhuti, in the Bolnisi district, we have already successfully cultivated Goruli Mtsvane and Chinuri. Plans are also underway to plant Asuretuli Shala alongside the foreign grape variety, Riesling, which boasts a rich historical connection to the district. The cultivation of Riesling is linked to the German colonists who once lived in Bolnisi and were actively involved in viticulture and winemaking.”
In 2018 Kobuladze’s Marani Rkatsiteli was awarded a golden medal at WINEXPO GEORGIA. Subsequently, other Kobuladze Marani wines have garnered various awards. Ioseb Kobuladze is one of the Bolnisi winemakers/viticulturists who share in the belief that the local wine culture and ancient traditions are deserving of greater attention and therefore a united front will allow for elevation in popularity of Bolnisi wines both domestically and in international markets.
