NABERAULI – TRULY RACHVELIAN WINE

| Homeland of Wine Magazine |

Amidst the Racha and Lechkhumi ranges of the Caucasus, in the valley of the Rioni River, lies the picturesque wine-growing region of Racha. Here, vineyards adorn both the right and left banks of the river. Despite the scarcity of vineyards, Racha is not inferior to other parts of Georgia in terms of winemaking; on the contrary, the demand for local wines has always been and remains high. This is attributed to the high quality of both the raw materials and the wines produced from them.

The Racha region is split into two sections: Zemo Racha and Kvemo Racha, each corresponding administratively to the Oni and Ambrolauri municipalities. Zemo Racha precisely aligns with the boundaries of the Oni district. This mountainous area places a lesser emphasis on viticulture, giving priority to animal husbandry and other agricultural sectors.

In terms of wine production, Kvemo Racha holds greater significance, with vineyards primarily located in the Rioni valley at altitudes ranging from 450 to 800 meters above sea level. The vineyards on both the left and right slopes of the river yield wines with distinctly different styles.

Itโ€™s said that a personโ€™s character and nature is influenced by the environment they inhabit. The same principle applies to wine. The excellence of a wine owes much to its terroir, which provides the vine with all the necessary elements to imbue the wine with its finest qualities.

The character of a wine is influenced by various factors including the soil, terrain, altitude of the vineyard, environment, light, climate, and temperature.

The highest quality grapes for winemaking are typically found in nutrient-poor soils. Unlike other crops, grapevines require minimal nutrients, leading their roots to penetrate deeply into the soil. As a result, the wine captures the essence of minerals extracted from the depths of the soil by the vines, along with the highly concentrated aromas in the grape juice.

Fertility alone is not sufficient when choosing soil for vineyards. Vines thrive in soil that warms quickly, aiding grape ripening, and offers good aeration and drainage to remove excess water. Sandy, carbonated, or loamy soils, along with sunlit slopes, fulfill these requirements by ensuring consistent sunlight exposure to the vines. This is why we opted to establish our wine residence in Racha.

The Naberauli wineryโ€™s factory, equipped with modern facilities and powered by green energy, is situated in a historically and geographically significant area of Western Georgia, specifically in Racha on the southern slopes of the Caucasus Range. It is specifically located in the village of Sadmeli within the Ambrolauri district. Here, all the essential elements for producing the finest wines, converge. Cool, misty nights, followed by warm, sunlit days, ensure our grapes ripen to perfection, resulting in a superb composition.

The terrain, encircled by mountains and forests, is shielded from chilling winds. The nearby Rioni Riverโ€™s water regulates temperature shifts and enhances sunlight exposure. Clay-saturated soil ensures effective drainage, while the carbonate content enhances the wineโ€™s aroma, and Calcium enrichment further enhances wine quality by boosting grape sugar levels while maintaining balanced acidity.

Together, these factors ensure the optimal growth and development of the vines, resulting in the beloved bouquet and velvety texture of the wine that we take great pride in.

Therefore, Naberauliโ€™s wine embodies the essence of Racha, mirroring the character and spirit of this region, its people, and its environment.

Last year, Naberauli held its fourth harvest, which coincided with several notable events. Among them was the establishment of a modern laboratory at our wineryโ€™s site. This development is noteworthy not only for Naberauli but also for the entire region.

Wine companies and family wineries now have the opportunity to monitor the quality of their own wine on-site, throughout the year, eliminating the need to travel to the capital.
